MISS UNIVERSE 2010 MOST BEAUTIFUL CANDIDATES

Two days after doing the country proud in this year's Miss Universe pageant, Philippine bet Venus Raj returned home to a warm welcome before dawn Thursday.

Raj arrived at 3:58 a.m. aboard a Philippine Airlines PR-107 flight from Las Vegas with relatives and supporters waiting for her, radio dwIZ reported.

A separate report by dzBB's Denver Trinidad said media and supporters mobbed Raj as she tried to make her way out of the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) Terminal 2.

In an interview with media at the NAIA, Raj said she hoped her showing at the beauty pageant would make Filipinos proud again, especially in the wake of Monday's hostage crisis in Manila.

She said she was saddened to learn of Monday's hostage crisis in Manila that killed at least eight Hong Kong tourists.

Hostage-taker dismissed Senior Inspector Rolando Mendoza was also killed in the incident.

Also, Raj said she planned to go to Heritage Park in Taguig City to the wake of fellow beauty queen Melody Gersbach, who died in a traffic accident in Bicol last Saturday.

Meanwhile, Raj said she had no regrets refusing to go topless in the pageant's pictorial.

"Alam kong tayong mga Pilipino medyo conservative, di niya tayo inalok na maging topless or what. Ako personal choice ko yan. So alam ko mas magiging masaya ang Pilipino na di ko ginawa yan (I know we Filipinos are conservative. Besides, I was not given an offer to go topless. It was my personal choice not to, because I know that decision will make my fellow Filipinos happy)," she said. — LBG, GMANews.TV
