MANILA, Philippines – Actress-television host Kris Aquino has ruled out any possibility of reconciliation between her and husband cager James Yap.
In her tell-all interview with “The Buzz” host Boy Abunda, which was aired Sunday, Aquino was bent on ending her 5-year marriage to Yap. She said she has yet to talk to her lawyers about the legal proceedings.
“Ang pinakamahalaga is alam niya at alam ko why this marriage ended. Alam din niya kung saan siya nagkulang kasi may mga tinext siya sa akin while I was abroad saying na he realizes where he went wrong. But I said it's really too late,” she said.
Aquino flew to the United States for a 3-week vacation with her 2 sons, Josh and Baby James. Josh is Aquino’s son from a previous relationship.
Aquino also disclosed that both she and Yap were already “miserable,” and that they “stopped loving each other a long time ago.”
She also said she was already tired of “pretending that everything was okay.”
“I acknowledged in my heart naubos talaga yong love, April 26 of this year. May nasabi siya sa anak ko, which I will forever keep between the 2 of us. May nasabi siya, sa galit namin sa isa't isa siguro, noong panahon na yon na nasaktan talaga ako. At nagpatunay talaga sa akin na this is not the man for me, this is not the man I want to stay with because dinadamay na niya ang 3 years old na bata na dapat protektahan nating dalawa,” she said.
Aquino also admitted Yap’s rumored illicit affair. She said she had been faithful during their marriage, but she did not think Yap can say the same thing. She also confessed that they had not fully resolved an issue involving Hope Centeno. In 2007, they went through a rough patch after Yap was rumored to have had a romantic affair with Centeno, one of the receptionists at the Belo Medical Clinic.
When asked to comment on rumors that Yap got a girl pregnant, meantime, Aquino said she would be the last person to know if these were true.
“My Ate (Ballsy) mentioned na napapabalitaan he's dating somebody already and then I think my Ate was testing the waters with me. And I said, 'Good.' Yon talaga. Yon ang opinion ko kasi we don't live under one roof anymore so it's his right. And it will make much easier for the entire country to move on,” she said.
She also maintained that she no longer harbors any ill feeling toward him because of their son, 3-year-old Baby James. “Bali-baliktarin natin, balikan natin, kung isusuma tutal natin lahat ng iniyak ko, lahat ng iniyak niya, lahat ng pinag-awayan namin, ang suma tutal niyan is nagkaroon kami ng Bimbi (Baby James). At burado na lahat ng sama ng loob dahil kay Bimbi.”
Aquino said she had her closure before she went to the United States. She said she and Yap talked for 2 hours before she flew to the US. She, however, declined to divulge the details of their conversation.
She also said her 3 sisters and brother, President Benigno “Noynoy” Aquino III, support her decision.
In June, Aquino announced that she was giving up on her 5-year marriage to Yap. Aquino said it was not a “spur of the moment” decision.
Aquino, who already moved out of their home, refused to reveal the reason behind their separation. She said she was keeping quiet for the sake of Baby James, their 3-year-old son.
On June 16, Aquino first admitted in public through her Twitter page that she and Yap, B-Meg Derby Ace’s (formerly Purefoods) star player, had a “big misunderstanding.”
Stress and long hours spent during her brother's election campaign period took a toll on their relationship, said Aquino, the lead star of ABS-CBN primetime soap opera “Kung Tayo’y Magkakalayo."
Aquino, who is 11 years older than Yap, married the professional basketball player on July 10, 2005.
